If you meet all the necessary academic requirements, you can do an unpaid internship, which allows you to gain practical experience within a formal legal framework. This flexible twelve-month degree program will equip you with the relevant administrative and technological skills to meet the demands of today`s and emerging law firm environment. Writing, Presenting and Solving Problems for a Public Sector Audience Topic Description This subject provides students with an introduction to legal research and the basic techniques of good legal writing. Students develop the skills to analyze simple legal problems and explore fundamental legal issues. Students learn to find and update the main sources of law, both paper-based and computer-assisted. Students learn to read, interpret and apply laws, regulations and cases.

Distinguish between primary and secondary Sources. 2. Interpret laws and regulations and find and update applicable laws and regulations in Ontario and at the federal level, both paper and electronic, using appropriate research methods. 3. Interpret case law, identify key elements of a case, and identify and update applicable Canadian case law using appropriate research methods using paper and electronic sources. 4. Assess a simple factual situation, identify its relevant legal issues and formulate an analysis of these issues by interpreting and applying the legal principles set out in relevant laws, regulations and case law 5.
Use appropriate secondary legal sources to research fundamental legal issues, including print and electronic versions of the Canadian Encyclopedia and Canadian Abridgment, Quicklaw, CanLII and other Internet research sources. 6. Apply Boolean search concepts and strategies and develop basic keyword searches. 7. Use correct printed and electronic legal citations. 8. Application of the principles of good legal drafting, drafting of simple legal briefs. 9. Demonstrate a professional attitude, which is evident in the ability to meet deadlines, complete assignments, and complete tests and class assignments as scheduled. This eight-month graduate certificate program equips you with the multidisciplinary skills and experience needed to succeed in the public service. The programme was developed by local government professionals with the aim of equipping graduates with the skills needed to succeed in the public sector. You will receive additional training in communication, policy analysis, project management, information technology, finance, governance, leadership and human resources management.
