Provides free legal aid in a variety of civil matters to eligible low-income Texans. Provides free civil legal assistance to low-income families and individuals in 72 counties in Texas and 4 counties in Arkansas. In some cases, such as domestic violence, forced evictions, or service of court documents, you may need immediate legal help. Please contact us immediately. All conversations are confidential. They represent people who have legal problems but cannot afford a lawyer. Similar to preparedness and recovery after a hurricane, earthquake or wildfire, individuals may face legal issues related to health care, economic stability, safe and healthy housing, public services, employment, environmental justice, domestic violence, and discrimination due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lone Star Legal Aid will continue to work on critical issues on behalf of our client community, through our individual client representation and systemic advocacy. Lone Star Legal Aid provides free legal advice and representation to eligible clients in non-criminal matters throughout Southeast Texas If you need legal assistance in a non-criminal matter, or even if you only have a question or want general legal information, you must apply. Once we have verified that you are eligible, we will provide you with the support possible.

Community organizations include Lone Star Legal Aid, Fort Bend Social Services, Fort Bend Health & Human Services, Fort Bend County Auditor/Mpact, Access Health, Fort Bend Behavioral Health, Houston Food Bank, Houston Humane Society, Mu Kappa Alpha, Sugar Land Jack & Jill and Texas Workforce Solutions. In order for us to help you, you must go through an application process. You can apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by applying online. LSLA has responded to several disasters and will have many volunteer opportunities available after a disaster, ranging from general advice, assistance with FEMA, SBA and flood insurance claims, assistance with litigation and cases with homeowners, contractors, consumer issues and a variety of cases that occur after a disaster and last longer. These include issues such as succession, title issues, and assistance in obtaining recovery grants. All Lone Star Legal Aid employees are currently working from home due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. This means that we are currently not available in our offices, but all Lone Star Legal Aid offices remain open virtually and accept applications online or by calling the office phone number listed below. LSLA aims to help clients maintain and protect economic stability; housing maintenance and foreclosure prevention; protect and improve the lives of children; ensuring the safety of victims of abuse; and support for particularly vulnerable populations such as the elderly, the disabled, children, veterans and people with limited English language skills. Areas of activity include domestic violence, child advocacy, homeowner protection, tenant and social housing rights, income security and public services, access to health care, consumer fraud protection, disability rights, employment, education, civil rights, and disaster relief. All clients have low incomes.

Many are women and children. Some are victims of domestic violence who need help to escape violence and remain non-violent. Others are residents with disabilities who need housing assistance, some need help applying for food stamps or applying for Medicaid, Medicare or SSI. Except for special programs, clients must generally be equal to or less than 125% of the federal poverty guidelines.
